500 years ago this month, the Lutheran Reformation came about as a bold and enduring declaration of the Gospel. The legacy of this historical moment lives on today as we embrace the idea behind “semper reformanda”: always reforming. Our relationship with Jesus, in other words, is not static. When we accept God’s free gift of grace, we grow in faith and experience His immeasurable kindness. As Paul wrote in Ephesians, “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.” (Eph 2:8 NLT). This declaration is our anthem, welcoming us into new life with Jesus. Through this gift, and this gift alone, we become the church God has called us to be.
