Hosanna! Student Ministries exist to help students develop an authentic faith that works in the real world. Through the PowerLife (grades 6-8) and Catalyst (grades 9-12) programs, students can deepen their understanding of what it means to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. We seek to minister to students as they develop a sense of community through dynamic worship, interactive small group experiences, progressive mission opportunities, and other large group events.

What is PowerLife?
PowerLife is Hosanna’s Confirmation ministry for grades 6-8 which serves as a launching point for students to develop and deepen a personal relationship with Christ. PowerLife incorporates relevant teaching, cutting-edge worship, creative illustrations, prayer ministry, and interactive small groups. PowerLife is designed to equip students with the spiritual foundation necessary to become true disciples of Jesus Christ who impact God’s Kingdom.

What do we teach?
Using Hosanna’s Five Core Values of Intimacy with God, Loving Relationships, Generosity, Serving, and Evangelism as our compass, we will challenge students in their faith with the following teaching themes:
• Sin
• Salvation
• Grace
• Generosity
• Christian living
• Identity in Christ
• Evangelism
• Social justice issues
• Parental relationships
• Handling crisis
• Purity
• Christian worldview

We will help students learn how to personally apply these lessons in order to live out a strong faith in the real world. The 8th grade students will experience Youth Alpha, January 14-April 1, which reiterates the basics of Christianity and challenges students to ask deeper questions.

What is a Pak and how are they formed?
A Pak is an age and gender-based small group of students, grades 6-8, which is a key component of the PowerLife ministry. Most Paks have two PakAdults (small group leaders) and 6 to 8 students. When the Hosanna! Student Ministries Team receives a new registration, prayer and God’s wisdom is sought as to which Pak will be the best fit for that student’s spiritual development. We believe there is value in students developing Christian relationships with other students from the same school, so we attempt to assign at least two students from the same school in each Pak. Experience has shown that the most successful Paks have some students who know each other and some who don’t.

Can students invite friends?
Students are encouraged to invite friends, but should get permission from their PakAdult(s), especially if it is a Pak Night (Community Service Night), because these nights may require the PakAdults(s) to transport the students to an off-site location.

What is Youth Alpha?
Alpha addresses questions like “Why Did Jesus Die?” “How Can I Be Sure of My Faith” and “How Can I Resist Evil?” and encourages students to ask important questions about their faith as they seek to make following Jesus a personal decision. Youth Alpha culminates with the Confirmation Holy Spirit Retreat February 27-March 1.

8th-12th graders planning to participate in Confirmation will take part in Youth Alpha on Wednesday nights, January 14-April 1, 7:30-9:00 p.m. Youth Alpha is also open to 9th-12th graders who may or may not wish to be Confirmed. Contact Kelly Nelson to register: kellyn@hosannalc.org or 952-898-9255.

Are service opportunities available?
A core value of PowerLife is to reach our world with the salvation message of Jesus Christ. Students involved in PowerLife will participate in community service nights (Pak Nights) several times during the year. For those who want to serve for an extended period of time, summer mission trips are a great option.

Confirmation

Confirmation Assignments

What is Confirmation?
The Confirmation Service offers students an opportunity to make a public confession that they are on a personal journey of faith with Christ. Confirmation is not the “end” of one’s faith journey, nor is it equivalent to salvation. Participation in Confirmation is an optional part of PowerLife. Students are invited to fully participate in PowerLife and Catalyst whether they plan to be confirmed or not.

When do students confirm their faith?
Students can participate in the Confirmation Service between grades 8 and 12 if they confess that they are on a journey of faith with Christ and complete the Confirmation requirements. Most students participate in the Confirmation Service as 8th graders.

What are the Confirmation Requirements?
• 8th-12th grade student
• Participation in Youth Alpha (Wednesdays, January 14-April 1)
• Participation in the Conf. Holy Spirit Retreat (February 27-March 1)
• Completion of a written Faith Statement (Due March 25)
• Sharing Faith Statement with PakAdult(s) (April 15)

When is the Confirmation Service?
The Confirmation Services will be held on May 2, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Requests for specific service times cannot be honored. To determine which service time your student has been assigned to, please click here.

What happens after Confirmation?
After students are confirmed, they transition into Catalyst, our senior high ministry. Students in Catalyst meet on Wednesday nights, 7:30-9:00 p.m. for teaching, worship, and small groups. Catalyst students can stay with their pak from PowerLife or join a new small group.

Serving Opportunities

How can parents and other adults help?
Hosanna! Student Ministries’ vision and strategy is to minister to the hearts of our students and to give encouragement, guidance, hope, and a reminder of how much Jesus loves them. Students need someone who cares enough about them to provide a positive example of what it means to pursue the heart of Jesus. Committed leaders are the backbone of PowerLife and Catalyst. Together, with God’s help, we can make an eternal difference in the lives of students.

PakAdults are the adult small group leaders for the PowerLife ministry (6-8th grade). Each leader is responsible for facilitating a small group of 6-8 students of the same gender. Ideally, each small group (pak) will have two leaders. It is the goal of our leaders to model an authentic personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is contagious for students and encourages their discipleship. All leaders receive relevant equipping throughout the year. PowerLife meets on Wednesday evenings September–May.
