Confirmation offers students the opportunity to publicly acknowledge their decision to make faith in Jesus Christ their own. Confirmation is not the “end” of one’s faith journey, nor is it equivalent to salvation. Confirmation students affirm they are on a personal journey to know Christ more. Participation in Confirmation is an optional part of PowerLife though all 8th grade students will transition to Catalyst in March whether they choose to confirm or not.
When do students confirm their faith?
Confirmation services are held at the Lakeville Campus on May 7 at a service at 10 am -OR- 12:30 pm. for Lakeville students and at the Shakopee Campus on Sunday May 15 at the 11 am service for Shakopee students. Check out the Youth Ministries brochure for details. Check out the Youth Ministries brochure for details.
Students, grades 8–12, can participate in Confirmation if they confess that they are on a personal journey to know Christ more and complete the Confirmation requirements. *No additional registration for grade 8 needed.
The Confirmation process ideally begins as a student enters 6th grade PowerLife, though students may join as late as 8th grade. PowerLife 8th grade students transition into Catalyst, our Senior High Ministry in March to give students a preview of Catalyst and what Living the Faith looks like. This is also the timeframe in which the Confirmation requirements will take place, with the exception of the retreat.

We will challenge students to embrace the faith and make it their own, walking in God’s ways in order to live the faith. Teaching topics include: Jesus’ Message, Ministry, Death and Resurrection, Identity in Christ, Sharing our Faith, Serving Others, the Bible, Prayer, Worship, and The Holy Spirit.
Key Mile Markers on a student’s journey towards embracing the faith include; Grades 7 & 8 Retreats, Confirmation, Small Groups, and Summer Camp.
PowerLife Small Groups are a key component of PowerLife and consist of 6–10 students of the same grade and gender and two Small Group Leaders. Returning students will be placed in the same small group as last year.
Small groups create a safe place for students to discuss questions about God, while encouraging each other in their daily walks with Christ. To allow for the rapid growth Youth Ministries is experiencing, when students reach 10 per group, sub-groups will be formed for small group discussion time. In this way, students can enjoy being part of their larger group but continue to invite friends and have more chance for meaningful small group discussions.
Retreats are a key strategy for students in grades 7 through 12 embracing and living the faith. When you register for PowerLife and Catalyst; the registration for an annual retreat is included. Retreats are typically a highlight for students, and a unique opportunity to unplug from their everyday routine. This helps build relationships in the small group and fosters more meaningful discussions on regular programming nights.
Can I invite friends to PowerLife?
Yes! Bring your friends! If they are interested we will encourage them to register to be officially placed in a small group. Small groups are central to the PowerLife experience, and new students are welcome to join PowerLife throughout the year.
